Welcome to fathersonbaseball.com. This website explores the travels of father and son, Ted and Robin Bruce of Vancouver, British Columbia to see every Major League Baseball stadium and related event and venue. Fathersonbaseball.com offers a review and photo gallery of Ted and Robin’s annual baseball road trip, which started it 1999.
Beginning in 1999 as a high school graduation present for their son, Robin’s parents gave him a trip to New York to see his favourite team, the Yankees. Traveling with his father, Ted, Robin experienced the glory of Yankee Stadium, while also paying a visit to Shea Stadium to watch the New York Mets. After experiencing New York, Robin’s goal has been to see every year major league baseball stadium. This aspiration developed not only because of his love for baseball, but because the sport is unique in relation to basketball, football, and hockey. Specifically, every Major League Baseball stadium has different dimensions and distinctive features which separate it from other ballparks. In contrast, hockey, football, and basketball venues in the NHL, NFL, CFL and NBA, each have standard dimensions and few characteristics which make them unique from that of their league rivals.
Since their initial trip in 1999, Ted and Robin have used their mutual passion (Robin a little more on the obsessive side) for baseball and established an annual father and son road baseball trip to see the different Major League stadiums and events. Driving across numerous highways, watching countless innings of baseball, meeting some unique people, and experiencing some the most beautiful cities in North America, father and son, Ted and Robin have seen games at twenty two Major League Baseball stadiums and visited two baseball Hall of Fames.
As part of their journey to see every to the different major league stadiums, Ted and Robin have developed a set customs. It has become a tradition at each ballpark to have their picture taken in front of the stadium, as well as a picture inside the stadium, and one of the final scoreboard from the game. In addition, it is a rule to save all tickets and have a game program from every ballpark. Furthermore, Robin has built a mass collection of memorabilia, including key chains, souvenir pop cups, jerseys, bobblehead dolls, and much more.
Finally, the decision of what stadiums to go to each year has for a large part depended on the future of the ballpark. Specifically, Ted and Robin prioritize visiting the older stadiums, many of which are be closed and demolished in favour of new, more costly, lavish, modern architectural venues.
